Car service… What you need to know

car service

Every car owner should know a few basic rules about car service that will help them keep their cars in good roadworthy condition. Some of these you do by yourself, such as checking the engine oil and keeping an eye on the tire pressure

Cars are complex, expensive and potentially dangerous machines, so it important that you get a trust worthy mechanic to look at them from time to time.

A car service is a routine check up carried out at set time intervals or after the vehicle has travelled a certain number of miles. The car manufacturer specifies the service intervals by creating a service schedule that you should aim to follow.

Service includes replacing aging parts and fluids as well as visual inspections to check key components are still working properly. There are three different types of service: These include Interim- which comprises an oil change, oil filter replacement and checks of major components such as the brakes, steering, clutch, hoses and pipes.

Others are full and Major. Here the checks covered by the interim service are boosted with more comprehensive checks of the engine, brakes, driveĀ  belts and heating and cooling system. Your mechanic should be able to tell what kind of servicing your vehicle needs and when. But that doesn’t stop you from knowing what you need to do before your vehicle starts acting up.
