Below is how to reset Subaru outback oil light after an oil and filter change. The procedure is quite easy and shouldn’t take much of your time.

 

  • Turn on the ignition to run but don’t start the engine
  • Locate the left hand side controls on the steering wheel
  • Select the up or down arrows until you highlight the maintenance menu.
  • Pull the i/set switch toward you which triggers the reset process.
  • A screen will verify the reset is complete and you can turn the ignition off.
  • Start the engine to verify that Subaru outback oil light is reset

For other models

  • Turn on the ignition or push the start button without starting the engine.
  • Press the CAR INFO on the MULTIMEDIA NAVIGATION SYSTEM
  • Then select MAINTENANCE
  • Select ENGINE OIL.
  • Select and SET “Notification Date” or “Notification Distance” of the reminder.
  • Click SET.
  • Close menu and Turn On the engine to verify the service reminder has been reset.

Subaru recommends getting your 2021 Subaru Outback oil & filter changed every 3,000-5,000 miles for conventional oil. Synthetic oil typically should be changed every 7,500 – 10,000 miles. Keep in mind it’s best to check your owner’s manual and with your dealer to learn the intervals that work best for your vehicle.
